Doc Hancock's blog

Why am I here?

Many times in our lives, we always ask why we are put into certain circumstances, whether they're circumstances that alter our futures or in my case, get my name out there among one of the blogosphere's up and coming bloggers.

For the most part, I am the grandson of an Illinois alum and also a follower of the Fighting Illini in basketball, even though the local university in the city I live in has a fairly decent team on the hardwood although the conference they play in is as soft as tissue.

I consider the 1993 Braggin' Rights game to be one of the greatest games in the history of Illinois basketball, right above the improbable comeback in the 2005 Elite 8 (still brings a tear to my eye) and the 2004 Illinois-Wake Forest game which showed the media that the Illini were for real when they beat Wake Forest (with Chris Paul) in Champaign.

The Three-in-One to me was the most exciting spectacle in college sports. The Orange Krush surronding the baselines of the court at Assembly Hall as the Chief did the Three-in-One and the singing of the alma mater still to this day gives me goosebumps. It's a shame that the powers that be discontinued what was nothing more than a tribute to the Illini tribe that made their home around Central Illinois hundreds of years ago, but that's the world we live in.

I have five years experience as a sports columnist, mainly in small newspapers around West Tennessee and also a proud owner of a popular blog, The View From the Press Box, which focuses on sports, girls, and other crap that might come to my mind during the day.
