This is not photoshopped. This is a hand-picked committee of 15 or so in the White House. This takes his teleprompter fetish to a new height.

IlliniPundit's picture

The Billy McGurkin cartoon is too funny. Rebuttals are by the other Party, the Republicans, and that's all they got, a grade school mentality and a grade school response.

Have you ever considered that maybe you're the one with the telepropmter fetish, Joan?  It's like you can't get enough of it.  I'm sure they have support groups for people such as your self with clear cases of prompterphilia...

The video is the best thing here in a long time.  Hard to believe Barbara Boxer has a job.

I guess I need to start watching Jon Stewart again.

I thought Obama teleprompter cartoon #452 was funnier than Obama teleprompter cartoon #329 but not as funny as Obama teleprompter cartoon #145. I haven't decided yet whether or not it was funnier than Obama teleprompter cartoon #388. I'll let you know when I decide.

And the Obama-as-the-Wizard-of-Oz cartoon #2,480 -- classic!

Conservatives have such an unending flow of new and innovative ideas! Or they will as soon as they have their first one.

That's a riot, Arvid. And for a proof of Euler's formula see equations 4 through 6 here; basically you sort through the components of the infinite series expansion of e^{i x}, grouping them into two series depending on whether they're odd or even, each of which then collapses into a trigonometric equivalent. Plugging in pi for x gives you the special case value of -1.

Could be worse, I suppose. Could be Mallard Fillmore. Now there's real conservative "humor" for ya.

By the way, how's Fox's conservative version of the Daily Show working out for them? What? They cancelled it after only thirteen weeks because it stank like a horse carcass in the hot sun? Or is it that conservatives only had enough actual humor for two and a half episodes? (Call it the "American Carol" syndrome.)

Of course conservatives have a sense of humor. They voted for George W. Bush. Twice. And now they pretend he wasn't a conservative.

So, you invite the President to chat and practice bi-partisanship and then you gang up on him.  I consider that bullying.

www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/01/29/obama.gop/index.html

Baltimore, Maryland (CNN) -- President Obama and House GOP leaders promised greater efforts to step back from the partisan brink Friday, acknowledging that Washington's toxic political climate has made it increasingly tough to tackle major problems.

The pledge was immediately called into question, however, as the two parties repeatedly expressed sharply differing viewpoints during a rare meeting at a House Republican retreat in Baltimore.

Obama accepted an invitation from House GOP leaders to address their caucus. His speech Friday was followed by an often pointed question-and-answer session.

Actually, that Q and A at the Republican retreat was totally unfair: President Obama destroyed them without apparent effort. Of course, when all of the GOP critters in the room don't collectively have a room-temperature IQ, it's not surprising. It was great fun to watch, as the president pointed out their lies, vicious vacuousness, and cowardice, without once being impolite. It's nice to have an adult as president. If the GOP ever comes up with an adult, do let the country know, will you?

Have you ever considered that maybe you're the one with the telepropmter fetish, Joan?

But really, I'm only the enabler of President Obama, who even has to take his security blankets into a White House meeting and an elementary school room. What's next, a Baltimore Bunnies Pre-School address?

the Artichoke's picture

Give the teleprompter thing a rest, Joan. After all the man has a lot on his mind and having to remember the content of each and every public address is just a part of it. I mean he speaks in complete sentences and completes whole thoughts and everything. You'll never hear nucular out of him. And there won't be enough fodder to make several 365-day calendars of Bushisms.  I kinda miss the inadvertant 'W' humor, but it's not real impressive in a leader.

NO teleprompter today at the the GOP Q&A...and he talked circles around those guys -- on EVERY TOPIC.

Anyone for a tall glass of kool-aid?

Stretching, Joan....

No, no kool-aid.  Just stating the facts.

Was there a teleprompter in the room today?  No.

Did the POTUS talk intelligently and off-the-cuff on several topics?  Yes.

"Keep drinking the kool-aid" is an easy way to skirt around the reality...just like those guys on the radio and TV do!!  Whenever backed into a corner, just say "kool-aid".  That'll show 'em!

I just finished reading the transcript of Obama's meeting with the House Republicans.  I gotta say that I was impressed with how well he handled the questions.   The exchanges were respectful.   Hope we see at least a little more bipartisanship.

Glock21's picture

I watched most of the Obama/House Repub meeting on c-span... was a good exchange. I thought both sides made some pretty good points. Not sure if it will really matter though. It's the congressional dems who have zero interest in that kind of open dialogue and debate. Pelosi pretty much laughed at the idea that Obama can get them to end the status quo of backroom deals. The message seems pretty clear from them: "F*** change!" They want Obama as a rubber stamp, not telling them how to run their own houses. They don't want some new guy telling them what to do, and it shows.

Glock21 Op/Ed

I’ve smelt the coffee and pushed the cool aid of deregulation, tax breaks for the wealthy and being puppeteered by big business and realized that only the government can get results that help all the voters, even working stiffs as I. Government regulation is how the telephone companies were forced to serve the poorer areas, eliminating cherry picking. The health insurance companies practice cherry picking, and it is surprising that a beneficiary of socialized employment, medicine and retirement by the state also wouldn’t push the cool aid aside.

Not sure if it will really matter though. It's the congressional dems who have zero interest in that kind of open dialogue and debate.

Whatever.  Obama nailed it perfectly when he said his centrist health care polices were being declared "some sort of Bolshevik plot."  Or when he explained the funding problems with Medicare and then said when he proposed caps on spending the GOP started telling old ladies he's going to take away Medicare.

Republicans have had several chances to support the legislation that has gone through the Congress with some of their ideas inside the bills.  They've decided to play politics instead and destroy any hope at bipartisanship.

That room was filled with a couple of adults and a whole lot of children.  At times Obama appeared to be giving them instruction in basic governance on the federal level.  At other times the Republicans appeared to be dumb as a box of rocks.  To listen to all that and then declare the congressional democrats are the problem is mind boggling.  Only a blind partisan could arrive at such a conclusion.

Glock21's picture

Yeah, scaring seniors is just dispicable. Only republicans are so vile:

Senior Scare, Yet Again: A DNC ad falsely accuses Republicans of voting "to abolish Medicare."

http://factcheck.org/2009/09/senior-scare-yet-again/

Obama's Social Security Whopper: He tells Social Security recipients their money would now be in the stock market under McCain's plan. False.

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obamas_social_security_whopper.html

Scaring Seniors: An Obama-Biden ad says McCain supports "cutting benefits in half" for Social Security recipients. False!

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/scaring_seniors.html

And in my blind partisan rage I criticized the Democratic leadership in Congress while thinking Obama did a great job today dispelling a lot of the BS and making some good points along with some of the Republicans today. I normally hide my blind partisanship better, but I'm so destracted with upcoming election being so close with my preferred candidate, Democrat Dan Hynes barely ahead in some polls.

But thanks for highlighting why it is generally pointless trying to have any sort of rational discussion with you. I realize that you'll probably never stop obsessing over trying to prove I'm some sort of right wing sycophant, but I'd hope some day you'd get better with all this practice. Meh, doesn't matter. Continue with your juvenile potshots and conspiracy theories (oh and whining that I'm such a meany-head). It's all you seem to have going for you.

But thanks for highlighting why it is generally pointless trying to have any sort of rational discussion with you.

I'm not trying to have a rational discussion with you.  I'm just pointing out where you're wrong.  Anyone who watches an hour of Obama exposing the dearth of actual ideas coming from the House Republicans only to declare that it is Pelosi and Reid that are to blame for the troubles needs to be challenged, imo.  And I have a hard time understanding how someone could draw that conclusion without the blinders of partisanship.

That's pretty much it.  No big conspiracy, no big obsession.  You're just wrong and I wouldn't want someone who hasn't watched the tape to walk away with the wrong perspective on what happened.  I'll try harder to play nice in the future ("whatever" "blind partisan" etc.).  You obviously don't appreciate that kind of banter.

Have a good weekend.

As I watched this Q & A between Obama and Republicans and listed to the campaign-ladened structured questions and observed the various expresses on Obama's face, I yearned for the simple clear cut Brian Lamb-type of questioning style.  :-)

People won't find any backing for my complaint about the dem congressional leadership in it because that complaint wasn't based on this Q & A... but hey, that might actually mean they read what I wrote, not been wrestling with straw men. How very grown up of them.

Anyone for a tall glass of kool-aid?

Anyone for a tall glass of fail?  Joan is a prime example of everything that is wrong with the GOP.  Why bother having any kind of rational debate and original thought, when you can just declare your opponents to be "Kool-Aid Drinkers", post some over-the-top cartoons and avoid having to actually describe how your ideology is better, or worse yet, actually discuss how the president (who you have derided as dependent on his teleprompter) talked circles around the GOP without the aid of one.  All it says is that you want to continue being the party of "no", and then wonder why you will get your asses handed to you again in the next election.  It's sad and disgusting that this is the best she can come up with, but I really don't expect too much else from her or those like her.

"that might actually mean they read what I wrote, not been wrestling with straw men. How very grown up of them."

Stay classy glock21. Stay classy.

Repeating over and over that Obama "talked circles around" his opponents is not a rational discussion, nor a description of why his answers and statements were better than the Republicans.  Trying taking a bit of your own advice and act like a grown-up and less like a child.  Or is that what we should expect from you?

Dumber than ten dogs.

"To those who believe that we continue to be a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people”, and that the government is limited in it's power and authority as enumerated in the Constitution, I say take the blinders off your eyes and wake up! If you do, and honestly seek the truth, this is what you will see. That today the true seat of Power in Washington is the “Invisible Government”, which exercises its total control from behind the scenes. Who is this Invisible Government? It is a small elite group of individuals who own and control the Giant International Banks and Corporations, and who exercise their control through the Military-Industrial Complex. Through their foundations and organizations, like the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) and the Trilateral Commission , they train and groom those who would be the “movers and shakers” of both U.S. political parties; in other words, they own and control the Republican and Democratic parties."

This is Friday Funnies?

When the shoe is on the other foot, as it has been for a year now, the Democrtas have zero sense of humor or perspective. Drinking the koolaid, I think, refers to those who lock-step support any leader, not that Dykstra is opposed to everyone who is an "opponent".

Obama is fair game on that teleprompter thing. Someone hide those things in the WH basement! Obama does ok w/o them.

A sense of humor doesn't mean just laughing at trance humor.

We might as well say that "Republicans have no sense of humor except for mocking others." It'd be inaccurate and an overgeneralization, but far more accurate that what you've said above.

More accurate would be that "Joan Dykstra has no sense of humor except for mocking others."

Good grief folks. This thread provides opportunity for everyone to post jokes and "mock others" and the end of the week. Get off your high horse.

Fine.

I don't approve, but if that's the lay of the land: here.

Hilarious, right?

Or can we actually just look for some real humor or satire?

So post some!!!!!

"Get off your high horse."

On behalf of high horses everywhere, I must object.

Yeah, I agree with Kevin. Joan's sense of humor isn't cruel, it's just reductive, simplistic, lazy, and dumb. The Reagan photo is about actual physical suffering, and I have to draw the line.

If you really think that Obama is really reading his speeches from a teleprompter, you obviously have had little experience giving speeches.  Having given hundreds of speeches with a set of notes in front of me--which I never even glanced at once the talk began--- I can tell you he is not reading and he is not out of touch with the message he is sending. A teleprompter is a useful backup for Obama--one that he  rarely needs or actually uses.  Ralh Langenheim

Glock21's picture

At least the teleprompter jokes are pretty silly compared to the conspiracies of secret Rovian communication packs hidden in jacket buldges during the Bush admin. Teleprompters for speeches are just high tech note cards in my opinion... allows for a better presentation, with a stronger appearance of eye contact, which is good stuff as any Speech 101 class suggests. The under-the-camera prompters make it appear like the guy is only talking to the tv audience instead of addressing an actual one... which is fine for oval office messages, but looks artificial when actually addressing an audience too.

Not sure why people are so riled up over the right making jokes about it, it's not like it has any bearing on Obama's image, nor does it matter to anyone beyond right wingers who like to poke fun of him or think it confirms some of his tired/groggy/off-the-cuff gaffes/etc clips during the campaign proved his masterful speech giving was somehow a ruse. There are certainly far more damaging criticisms they could focus on instead... just ask his base. Their lost enthusiasm, and many who are actively criticizing him too don't have anything to do with right wingers or the Daily Show making fun of him for setting up teleprompters in a grade school setting.

On a more humorous note, if you missed it, an old MadTV skit on the iPad... sorta NSFW... ish... http://glock21.blogspot.com/2010/01/comic-relief-ipad.html
