The candidates are starting to line up, but the two profiled by the NG have been writing on IP.com about running for a while:
Lynne Barnes, a Democrat from Ward 7, says she doesn't intend to seek a second term on the council and a Republican newcomer, Robert Dunn, says he'll be seeking Barnes' seat. Aside from Barnes, all six other aldermen say they will be running again.
Rex Bradfield, 62, a Republican, said this week he intends to challenge Prussing for mayor.
If nothing else, this is going to be entertaining.

I picked up the petition today and am looking forward to the campaign describing the issues, solutions, changes and ideas which will help Urbana, the surrounding Cities and Villages and the University of Illinois, utilize the enormous wealth of talented potential employees in this area, to increase the tax base, create new jobs , of all abilities, such as blue collar, trade, white collar, manufacturing and technical.
I look forward to reviewing development ordinances, historical preservation ordinances and other ordinances to reshape them in a manner that not only makes Urbana very desirable for new businesses, expansion of existing business, but attract National and World wide business to this area. And using the effects of those changes to the development ordinances and the increased revenue from attracting and establishing those businesses, to develop Urbana in an environmentally safe and historically manner. Develop Urbana to be Green.
I look forward to formulating necessary ordinances that will allow government to assist those who need the help of government. Those ordinances will be based on positive participation by the general public, rather than the present governments policies of "shove it down the citizens throats" or negative participation. I will find ways to help those who so adequately described the problems of physical disabilities during public meetings concerning snow removal, but not impose those ways on the general public.
I will seek ways that allows Urbana and all local Villages and Cities to help defray or lower the costs of utilities while improving the environment.
Rex Bradfield
Well, at least you've started out really lame.
Prediction: Anonymous wins a close race on the second count.
WOW...a republican running in URBANA....is that legal?
Any Dems running in Ward 7?
What about Ward 6?
And is Roberts more vulnerable after his strange 'present' vote last night?
Of the remaining wards, I suspect Smyth and Bowersox are most safe. Lewis isn't very active so who knows there. Gehrig is probably safe since he was the only one who applied for the vacancy (if you won't even apply for office then it seems like you're unlikely to run for it).
