While listening to the BBC news report at noon on WILL-AM, I learned that the folks in the United Kingdon have choice options who supplies energy. In other words if an individual does not like the service/rates of company A, this person can change to company B or C, or maybe even more. Now this is competition to help contain costs. Maybe a model for the USA to study.
I was down at Busch Stadium last night for the game against the Dodgers, and got to see Albert Pujols hit just his 6th career grand slam in the 4th inning. What a treat that was.
This was my first trip to the 'new' Busch Stadium, and it is a fine improvement over the concrete bowl that it replaced. It definitely has the "old time" ball park feel to it, and in an odd way, actually had hints of Wrigley Field in it.
One thing that didn't surprise me, was that they never showed the NL Central standings on the scoreboard. They showed the AL Central standings several times, but never the NL. Maybe because the CUBS are so far on top?

Did anyone watch the City of Champaign Township meeting this week? We have reached a new low. Someone came in to complain that Vic McIntosh was rude to Linda Abernathy because he asked her some questions about her salary. Have we gotten to the point where our elected officials cannot ask questions about how tax dollars are being spent. Anyone know whether the guy who was complaining is associated with AWARE or some of the liberal groups from Urbana? Someone told me that they had attended the meeting, and one of the commentators complained that the City was trying to drive a wedge between people from Urbana and people from Champaign,
If Linda Abernathy can't take the heat, she should stay out of the Township kitchen.
Before the game started, I turned to the guy on my right and told him "I'm a Cubs fan.... I'm not quite sure how the h_ll I got here...."
It was one of those things where a friend ended up with an extra ticket, and an extra seat in his car. So, it ended up being a cheap outing. I was curious to see the new stadium, more than anything else. I definitely didn't go for the $5 bottled water and the $7.75 beers. With such a big brewery right there in STL, you'd think the beer would be a little *cheaper* than that..... :-)
I really wanted to wear my Cubs shirt (with the 5 game lead in the NL Central and all) but with it being a 7:05 game, that would have put me on the streets of downtown St. Louis after the game in the dark, so I didn't do it.

I don't think it's a UK/USA thing. I'm pretty sure my sister (in Houston) had the opportunity to decide where she was going to buy her power. There were the usual options, plus wind and nuclear, which were more expensive.
I'm also pretty sure that the one-notch-above-Satan Al Gore pays extra to buy energy from renewable resources. Then again, Al Gore is fat.
O.K. I ought to have done this internet searching before posting about UK energy choice. Seems that even with choice comes creative ways to negate the choice by the manner pricing is done. See this London Times online article

My wife ordered me one of her shirts. I am trying to sign up for her campaign, any ideas on were I call?
Speaking of shirts, I predict they sell 1 million Jets/Favre jerseys this year, just a few more than Packers/Rodgers.

To Redstatewannabe--this report pertained to individuals not businesses, thus my interest.

Looks like none of us individuals here in Illinois get the opportunity afforded the Brits.
