This is too easy. I'll leave it to others to explain Pelosi's Congress.

Actually Beijing gets a lot of dust blown in from the Gobi desert, but China-bashers are seldom interested in facts or understanding.
I have to agree with Anon 3:52. The Democrats made lots of promises about ending the war, but couldn't push it through the Senate. Now they act as if they were unaware that you need 60 votes in the Senate to end a filibuster. I can give Pelosi some credit for keeping her troops in line, but Harry Reed is one of the lamest leaders that any party has ever put forward. Poaching a few members of the other party to your side is part of the job description, and the GOP managed to do just that to get Bush's program through without 60 votes - and it should have been a lot easier after the GOP meltdown in 2006. Instead of effectively politicking, Harry Reed blundered about, declaring the Iraq war already lost, making excuses for his poor performance...pathetic. Now the Dems are hanging on to their majority by the benevolence of an independent ex-Dem, Joe Lieberman, while they treat him like he has leprosy - he endorsed McCain for the simple reason that McCain asked him to, while none of the other senators running could be bothered. The Dems should find a new Senate majority leader, especially if they can't get to 60 in the next election. Sen. Reed isn't up to leading a caucus unless he has a majority that makes legislating idiot-proof for him.

Right, the GOP has reached an all time low in employing tactics to keep any legislation from being passed through the Senate http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jul/29/coburns-spending-block-rallies-senate-gop and it is the Democrat's fault. I see the usual sharp logic is being employed here to disucuss the GOP. Not to worry though, I suspect that the Democratics may achieve a veto proof majority in the Senate and then they can get something done without the assistance of the obstructionist GOP. The GOP will once again howl and while about how the liberals are using dirty tricks. Gosh, isn't funny how the Democrats finally learned to use the same tactics as the GOP after losing for years. Hmm. What goes around comes around.

Clearly not everyone is doing it. Sure. We should be doing it, but we're not. If no one ever asked us to do the things we already should be doing as a society, how well would that work out.

It's more like the GOP has to push simple, black-and-white answers to every question. Even the smallest nuance must be mocked and ridiculed. Krugman says it better than I can:
What I mean, instead, is that know-nothingism — the insistence that there are simple, brute-force, instant-gratification answers to every problem, and that there’s something effeminate and weak about anyone who suggests otherwise — has become the core of Republican policy and political strategy. The party’s de facto slogan has become: “Real men don’t think things through.”

No it's really funny to watch you defend something so stupid. You may think it's important to defend Obama no matter how dumb he looks but you know most voters think it's really stupid. You know I would keep going but I have better things to do.

I've had my oil changed many a time and have never been asked about my air pressure. They may check it and adjust it without telling me, but I've never had a discussion with a mechanic about it.
Which reminds me, I need to go check my tire pressure...
Proper inflation of tires should be a part of any oil change. Remember the days when the kid from high school used to run out to your car when you pulled up at the pump? He'd "filler up", check the tires, the oil, wash the windshield, etc.
Nowadays it is up to us. Personally, I try to change my own oil as much as possible (takes about 20 minutes and I prefer a certain kind of oil). But tire pressure is much more difficult because so many of the inflation devices cost $1.00, or whatever, and are often on the blink (hint: Collins Oil on Main in Urbana still has free air).
No it's really funny to watch you defend something so stupid.
Ok. Is it proper tire inflation that you find stupid, or the fact that a Presidential candidate dared to inject nuance into a debate about energy savings? Must we just stick with "drill more oil!" or is it possible to have many solutions at the same time? Either way, I am glad to provide entertainment for you. :)
