"When facism comes to America it will be wrappd in the flag and carrying a cross."  Sinclair Lewis, 1935,' It Can't Happen Here.' Quoted from memory, so there may be errors, but I can heartily recommend Sinclair's book, which was written as Nazism and Facism took over Germany and Italy and Franklin Roosevelt was setting up the National Recovery Act.  Among other notable things in the book, protofacist President Windrip neutralized Herbert Hoover by appointing him ambassador to Liberia.  Ralph Langenheiim

Does anyone have a comment or two on the government (taxpayer) "bailout" of Freddie Mac and Fanny May?

Well Ralph, that would explain why Obama has spent so much time talking about his church and now sports a flag pin.

Have we seen the last of the PASS System?  Is there any way to check Court Records online?  Does anyone know what's going on?  Is this going to be an issue in the campaign for Circuit Clerk?

Jim Rogers gave a straightforward response on Bloomberg. (from yesterdays open thread).

Someone had asked before if Calabrese's announcement ever took place. There's a post of IL Review with the speech transcript:  http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2008/07/longtime-champa.html#more

That Illinois Review post and comments are hilarious.

Thanks for the reference RK.  I was on a 15 hour drive back from Denver yesterday and missed the thread.  I would have thought someone under 50 years of age would have seen the light.  I'm too old to 'fall on this sword' but the younger generation is going to pay dearly for this government action.  My fear for my children and grand children is once the bankers/mortgage people responsible for our current housing crunch get into Freddie Mac and Fanny May, the liability for taxpayers will make the national debt look like 'chump change'.  They may have already infiltrated as these two quasi-corporate giants have spent over 40 million dollars on congressional lobbyists just the first quarter of this year.  "Welcome taxpayers to the BIGGEST government BAILOUT in the history of this country".

I found the IL Review stuff interesting. Certainly the Dan Proft aspect... Think that will be seen in the campaign?
