State of American Political Discourse

Yesterday perfectly demonstrated the state of American discourse.

It started with an important event - Iran firing missiles - which allowed both candidates for President to highlight real differences in their philosophies and how they would handle such a situation.  It was real, current, relevant and informative.

And today, nobody cares, because last night Jesse Jackson said he wants to cut off Barack Obama's nuts, and the entire American political world is titillated.

Is it 2009 yet?

Yes, It would be a big story that Iran was shooting missiles with a range long enough to hit Israel, and talking about how they had the Nuclear material to blow them off the map. Another story that would also be interesting to talk about would be how Obama kicked the left of his party to the curb and voted for the FISA bill and gave the TELECO's immunity (which wasn't really covered in the story I saw anyway, or was the fact that the Dem. leadership was trying to give Obama all the cover he needed.).You don't suppose Jesse Jackson would make the comments on an open mike so that the two bigger stories would be spiked do you? Of course the news media wouldn’t take such easy bait, not when Iran might be trying to push Israel to strike against Iran's Nuke plants to protect themselves. That would leave the American people mis-informed and unprepared for what might be coming next. Seems it's the news media that ended up losing something.

It seems that to great extent a large subset of the American people have chosen to cover their eyes and ears to avoid being informed and really I dont imagine they want to be prepared for what comes next, and I dont mean just low voter turnout.

Jesse's great mistake is apologizing rather than asking for help.  You guys hold 'im down.  I' ll get the knife and the turpentine.

Obama is proving himself to be at least as much of a neocon socialist-fascist as McCain, ensuring that the thread of American Imperialism will not be broken no matter which of O & M is erected for precedent.

This is disgusting, and completely inappropriate.

...but thanks for not deleting it, as I found it very revealing.

Hey, IP, it better reflects Jesse's sentiment than his insincere apology
for his sincere expression of being displeased with Senator Obama.

It's disgusting not because it better reflect's JJ's true sentiments, but because you suggest that he should actually go through with it.

Completely disgusting.

yeah reg, I used to think of you as that crazy old uncle that occasionally says something profound, but this puts you in quite a different light.  I think your true colors are finally showing.

Come on.  My statement is "why should Jesse Jackson retract his epithet?".  He said it.   He meant it (figuratively, of course).  What is the use of his covering with a lie? (Oh, my.  I am so sorry that I said such an insensitive thing.)  Do you feel different about him because he attempted a retraction?  What's wrong with him telling the truth?  (Oops, the mike was on.  Well you know now how pissed I am with this guy.  Here, let me explain to you why I am angry, and you can understand and be angry too.)

IP, here you complain that the news focuses on irrelevant events.  Are you the same?  Are you focusing on an uncomfortable practical expansion of a agrarian metaphor rather than on the subject material?  Are you really that offended?

Obama is trying to deceive the people with his change rhetoric, saying that he is different. The sad truth is that he is not different. In fact both Obama and McCain are in the same gang that basks in the luxury of a 9% approval rating.  Obama voted for FISA with the gang.  He did.  Obama is one of them, just like them.  McCain ["the brave war hero"] ran and hid, so he didnt have to record his "Yea" vote.

There isn't really all that much difference in the philosophies of McCain and those of Obama.  Either one of them will continue Clinton's War of American Imperialism that was GHWBush's War of Imperialism before that, just as W has done despite explicit promises from W in 2000 that he wouldn't.  It's an unbroken thread.

So we hear, "Oh consider the kind of Supreme Court justices {McCain, Obama} will appoint".  The implicit meaning is that the left and the right each have their own sets of distorted rulers and crooked balances plus parallax and astigmatism in reading.  Both McCain and Obama have demonstrated their willingness to trash the Constitution.   Who's on first?

I've told you why I found your statement disgusting.  It's not because you say Jackson shouldn't have apologized.  It's because you're urging him to actually go through with it.
