Take Beasley

The Bulls pulled off an upset and snagged the top pick in the NBA draft.  John Paxson may have wished that he got the second pick, which will come with less pressure.  Regardless, I hope the Bulls pick Beasley.  With Hinrich already on the team, the need for a point is not high.  Plus, you'd have to unload Hinrich if you picked Rose, and after Hinrich's last season, that's not going to be easy.  We've needed low post scoring for about a decade it seems, and Beasley is a 20/10 guy right out of the box.

1) Overrating Heinrich. He's really just not that good. He's not a point guard who can lead a championship team. Rose is.

2) Overrating Beasley. I think there are parts of his make-up that will render him from being a dominator into a solid pro player. I'd rather have Rose.

Rose is the hometown kid who will fill seats and will get the ball to the scorers that are already on the team.  Mike D'Antoni said Rose is like Jason Kidd with a jump shot.

Derrick Rose is close to the pure point guard model, but he is also a tremendous athlete and gifted scorer.  Beasley has more potential as an explosive scorer, but he's a 'tweener size-wise -- not quite a power forward but not enough of a pure outside shooter to play small forward.  Therefore, the Bulls would have to make more adjustments to their offensive strategy in order to exploit Beasley's talent.  Rose would require no such adjustments.  In addition, Rose is at his best in an uptempo game, which means he's ready for the NBA pace right now.

I could see Derrick Rose at the Williams/Paul level in 3 to 4 years.  Beasley will probably be a prolific scorer for some lucky team, but the NBA is full of guys who can score.
