So, when Mike Frerichs accepts a sub-level cabinet post in say , either Commerce, of Labor, or maybe even at the UN. Doe's the GOP have any anyone lined up to run for his vacnat seat. Whatever else he may be, he is not a fool,,,,,and having a friend that owes you get elected President,,,,and maybe a good job offer,he would have to go for it. Mike knows as well as anyone that Illinois politics is a cesspool, and when the wheels finally do come off the cart,,,why be here if you dont have to be.  After a few years building up his resume,,,and being that there is usually a mid term shake up in Washington,,,,no telling what level he could move too, and pending a second term a really big move up the ladder. Durbin will be done by then,,,maybe a bid for U.S. Senator? or even Governor? Like him or not,,,he is in a very good spot!

Sen. Frerichs' seat isn't on the ballot until 2010.

There's no point in the Republicans announcing plans now for a hypothetical vacancy when the GOP is going to need a strong candidate to compete for the seat regardless of what happens.

That said, Frerichs is indeed in a very good spot, and deserves credit for putting himself there.

True Gordy,,,,,but the GOP cupboard is bare, never too soon to line some people up, and the next President is sworn in Jan 20, 2009, a milli-second in politics, and I hope the heck we have someone that could derail any attempt by Beckett to run,,,he seems to have no shame,,,,and nothing he has done at the county level seems to bother him.

Gordy,,,,,I think the times are long gone where either party can afford to wait until the last minute to line some qualified people up,  the sooner someone announce an interest the better I think, just mu opinion,,,oh by the way, my humble contribution to IP was just dropped in the mailbox:)

"the sooner someone announce an interest the better I think"

I disagree.  There's plenty of time after 2008 to announce and run in 2010.

Noted:)  But that may just push me over into Roberts camps:):)

Robert?

To borrow a line from Young Indiana Jones.  "Presidents come,,,and Presidents go, the only thing that changes is the name of the man that takes your chickens"
