"Mr. Wright seems to me to be part of the great "barbaric yawp," as Walt Whitman called the American people fighting, discussing, making things and living. I like the barbaric yawp. I don't enjoy it when it makes me wince, but at least when I am wincing, I know the yawp is working."

I used to really dislike Peggy, years ago. Over the past year or two, I have come to realize that now I like her, a lot. Did she change, or did I? Maybe it was both of us...
I'm with you, Kevin. I've really come to appreciate her columns over the last few years, while not appreciating her earlier work. She always wrote like an angel, but when she was more directly involved in daily politics, rather than commenting on things from a ways back, she was sharper and more partisan. While she still is partisan and has a definite point of view, she also seems more thoughtful and nuanced now. I always gain something from reading her work.
Funny, I'm feeling the same way about her myself. I do think she has mellowed since she was working for Reagan; any particular reason she didn't/doesn't hang out with the Bushes?
Perhaps some of it is the fact that she seems to like my candidate more than she likes Clinton...;-)
