Rumored for weeks, Tom Kacich confirms it:
Sources confirmed today that Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer intends to announce next week that he is dropping out as a candidate for state representative in the 104th District....
Eisenhauer won the February primary but has campaigned very little, if at all, since that time. Party officials have expressed concern about his commitment to the race....
Black, who is out of the state this week, could not be reached for comment. But it is expected that he will once again run for re-election -- if the Vermilion and Champaign county GOP chairmen appoint him.
Hopefully, given the lateness of the switch, Rep. Bill Black will consider running for another term.

I wondered if his attempts to close a fire station in Danville would make that community mad at him and he realized that he wouldnt win the election....
Gordy,
You know anything about this?

Geeze,
If he is not campaigning, at this time, that is his choice.
Did the Democrat candidate file intent yet?
I find Scott to be engaging and a consummate politician with a history of some really good ideas that have helped Danville take steps in the correct direction. Certainly pulled them out of the horrible debt they were in before he took office.
A while back the Republican Party expressed similar concerns about Mike Ditka and the U.S. Senate seat. That really worked out well for the Party (What was that guy that got elected's name?)
I agree with Laura, the gas tax is a pretty sour idea, and really have no knowledge on the firehouse, so no comment there.
But I still believe he is a very strong candidate in that District and is really a presence you don't forget when he appears in public.
I hope he continues to run.

It's Official, he's out:

I don't know much about h im, but I have to give him credit for stepping up and saying what we all know--that the bulk of government budgets are personnel costs, and that if you fail to cut positions, you don't make any meaningful headway on your budget. He's right--they'll be right back where they started on the budget next year unless some new source of revenue comes in.
Bill Black is a rube who should have been bounced out of office years ago. His possible return is yet another example of how awful state and local politics have become.
Anonymous 5:57 wins the award for "most idiotic comment of the day." Congratulations!
It doesn't count if they're trying to win that award.

Doing the smart thing doesn't win you elections....unfortunately.
The mass exodus (call it apostasy if you prefer) of Republican voters and Republican candidates
is part of that giant sucking sound being generated by the McCain campaign.
The GOP candidates begin to realize that their political arses are grasse with McCain on the Republican ballot.
The problems with the Illinois Republican party have long preceded the McCain campaign... they've been sucking here for a good few election cycles now. (Topinka, Jack Ryan/Alan Keyes, etc)
If the Republican Party has had problems I think most not all should be directed to George not Jack.
"The GOP candidates begin to realize that their political arses are grasse with McCain on the Republican ballot."
Right, RepubliKKKans would win only if Ron Paul was on the ballot to totally carry all fifty states. Thanks, Anonymous.
It was a stroke of genius running Keyes as a softball for Obama, setting Barack up to be president. Gotta hand it to that McKenna he is a sharpie.
Anon-Softball, that was why they picked Keyes. I'm sure the voter is thinking when they vote that they would vote republican if it wasn't for that stupid Keyes thing. I think they are more likely comparing the two candidates running for that office's or are just making partisan pick.

A unique concept, we can only hope.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe Rep. Black wins, and then in two years retires, and the republicans then can make a replacement candidate...... interesting senario...............
