The bus one and the 9/11 one are from The Onion.  Their "editor" (fictitious of course) is one T. Herman Zweibel, a super-jingoistic over the top conservative in the style of Steven Colbert, and the political cartoons tie in with that.  Think of them as Mallard Fillmore parodies and they make a lot more sense.
