Super Tuesday Election Results Live Blog - Part Two

11:55 PM:  Final update:  Urbana Parks fails by 64 votes out of 6800.  More tomorrow.  Thanks to all our Clerk employees, election judges, and candidates.

11:33 PM:  with 114 of 117 precincts reporting, there have been almost 23,000 Democratic ballots cast, which is a huge number.  Over 15,000 GOP ballots, which isn't a huge number, but isn't tiny, either.

11:31 PM:  Cunningham 6 just came in.  Urbana Parks lost there, 81 to 112.  Only Cunningham 21 is left.

11:10 PM:  The Urbana Parks referendum is going to come down to whether it can win by more votes in Cunningham 6 than it will lose by in Cunningham 21.  Right now it's losing by 14 votes out of more than 6000 cast.  More than 750 Park District voters today did not bother to vote on that referendum.

10:53 PM:  93 of 117 Champaign County precincts reporting.

  • Ballots: 17,500 Dem, 11,018 GOP
  • McCain 37, Romney 35
  • CB6:  Rosales 480, Petrie 441, Williams 270, Jehle 216
  • Urbana Parks (25 of 27): failing by 14 votes out of 6400 cast.

10:29 PM:  I updated the Urbana Parks table with the two new precincts, and posted it in comments.  I'll keep posting that updated table in comments as the results come in.  It's too large to post here.

10:20 PM:  67 of 117 Champaign County precincts in.

The only races still close are GOP President, Dem CB6 and Urbana Parks.

  • Ballots: Dem 12,370; GOP 7,905
  • McCain 38, Romney 34
  • CB6:  Rosales 428, Petrie 423, Williams 233, Jehle 201.  6 of 13 reporting.  Still a chance, but looking pretty settled.
  • Urbana Parks (17 of 27): still failing, 52-48.

10:09 PM:  Urbana Park District detailed returns:

Holy crap!  That's a massive ballot differential for a county that was as purple as could be in 2004.  It was dern near 50/50 for Bush/Kerry.  It makes sense.  I saw a lot of happy and jubilent voters this morning.  I think they were estatic over having a candidate they could really believe in, Obama.  And that was just a few minutes after polls opened.  I don't think it was for my guy either.  I'm pretty sure they were Obama supporters.  And I don't blame them a bit.  I'm kind of rooting for Hillary to win because it gives my guy the best odds.  But Democrats deserve a candidate like Obama who doesn't just lie and pander to them.  They suffered enough with Kerry.

I was very sorry to see this:

County Board Member
(WITH 13 OF 13 PRECINCTS COUNTED)
Janet Anderson. . . . . . . . . 1,262 55.45
C. Pius Weibel. . . . . . . . . 1,014 44.55
Total . . . . . . . . . 2,276

I think that Pius has served the county excellently over the past few years.

I'm pretty sure that was a vote for two race, so Pius is in.

I'm pretty sure that was a vote for two race, so Pius is in.

I double-checked and you're right, so it's all good.

huh. Really? Ya know, I was totally unaware that each County Board district has three representatives. Well don't I feel silly. Thanks, curious and wayward.

Local Voter's picture

You can never have enough County Board members PB.  Back when people of Champaign County were really represented there were over 50.  So how many CC Board members does it take to get anything accomplished?  Answer: too many but it fills up Brookens.

I am not surprised as Weibel does not appear to follow the "political" power players well.

People, or LAND AREA?

But yeah, it was adjusted back in 1970.
