Congratulations to the Colorado Rockies, and especially to MATT HERGES of Champaign for sweeping the Arizona Diamond backs and advancing to the World Series!

I thought baseball season ended a few weeks ago?
If you are Cubs or Cardinal fan it did .
That's MATT Herges, not Todd.
Congratulations are definitely in order for Matt -- he pitched three scoreless innings when the Rockies won the one-game playoff in San Diego, and he threw two more last night for the win that put the Rockies in the World Series.
He and his dad (Butch) coached one of my sons in Peanut League baseball.
Thank You for pointing out my error, Sorry Matt!
By the way, it's Matt Herges, not Todd, who was a good and valuable middle reliever this past season and who has enjoyed a long and solid major league career.
If you are Cubs or Cardinal fan it did.--It was longer for Cards fans.
Yeah Matt!!! Give 'em Hell!!! I love the Herges's.. That's a really nice family! I remember Matt in diapers..
I umpired in the Little League at Eisner Park in Champaign when Matt was playing. Matt, who pitched then, was a smaller than average kid when in Little League. Little League pitchers most almost always just throw the ball straight. One game when I was the home plate umpire, Matt, of course without warning , released a curve ball which must have moved horizontally at least 20 inches in its 45 foot trajectory to the catcher. The batter just watched it. I also was too surprised to discern whether it was a strike or ball--I suspect I followed its horizontal motion and neglected to monitor its vertical position--so I declared ball. Matt, who may have well schemed several days about this pitch, jumped up and down and waved his arms in diappointment.

I have lived in Denver for last 4 years and went to many a Rox game this year and we are soaking it in... I watched him pitch this year with my 11 y/o son at Coors Field. I played with Matt's brothers in Champaign about 25 yrs ago with his dad as our assistant coach and have good memories of how good a family they were to a not so very good baseball player that loved the game (me). Go Rockies and good luck Matt.
