LaHood Retiring

Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Peoria) will not seek re-election in 2008:

Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.) will announce Friday that he will retire at the end of this term, removing one of the most outspoken, aisle-crossing congressmen from Capitol Hill.

LaHood, a 30-year political veteran first elected to the House in 1994, said the time has come to spend more quality time with his grandchildren.

Now why didn't "two-term Tim" feel this way?

I knew Congressman Lahood briefly because I went to high school with his daughter in Peoria.  He is a top-notch guy and really old fashioned in that he actually seems to try to get things done without getting bogged down in partisanship.  A novel idea, huh?

I hope Tim Johnson follows the same route. Besides, how is he going to perform as the new U of I mascot if he is stuck in DC?

I have met with Ray manytimes concerning an injustice to a Construction Company in Beardstown. He was receptive to the problem and did attempt to find a solution. He was also Retired Representative Bob Michaels top Aid and has given his life to public service. I hope he enjoys his retirement years.

To that end, I am, and shall always remain;
