County Board Settlement with PKD

I'm sure there was some surprise and/or thankfulness from readers when I didn't comment on the settlement by the County with PKD for their responsibility for the mold problems at the new Champaign County Nursing Home.  The reason was that I was wondering just was in the PKD contract that would allow them to get away with such a pittance as $127,000.  So I requested a copy of the contract from the County Auditor.  What with the holidays and all, I didn't receive the contract until today.  When I received it I found out that the reverse side of some of the pages had not been copied when it had been delivered from the Administrative Services to the Auditor.  So the document I have is incomplete, but I did see enough to notice that a couple clauses were added that are pretty striking.  I'll post the contract next week if I finally get it and discuss it here.

The County now has about 1.7 million in unreimbursed costs associated with the mold problem which they are going to try to get from the general trades contractor.  I wish them luck, but if they could only get $100,000 from the folks in charge of the project I don't have much hope that we'll get anywhere close to full reimbursement.
