We still haven't seen the Myers poll results. Have I missed them? Two precinctcommitteemen told me she was up by 20 in the poll. What happened?
Bad polling?
Lazy candidate?
Wrong message?
Inept manager?
We should figure out what went wrong so that we can fix it before the next race.

Would this be a good time to revisit the question: Does Champaign County need an elected position 'Auditor'?
Many Illinois counties do not have one.

Mike Frerichs has just proven that the elected auditor can do nothing and no one will notice. The CPA in the auditor's office does the accounting work for the county. Good luck getting rid of it with all of the Dems lined up to slip into a do-nothing $55,000/yr job.

You've been misinformed.
One, we polled multiple times, as did Frerichs' campaign.

I attended the Staley/Rising corridor Study Public Workshop last evening with some 200+ others. It was obvious that the hosts were not expecting this large of turnout. After moving into a larger hall, there was a PP presentation describing the area, identification of the matching donation sponsors to the grant that is fuding the study, impact of a previous US 150 corridor study, and new interchange on I-57 at Curtis. After the presentation, the audience was asked to participate in groups, each with a facilator to describe the following regarding the Staley/Rising Corridor: Existing Challenges, Strengths & Opportunities; What development in terms of land uses/transportation would you like to see in the next 10+ years; other needs and comments on the corridor.
Dispite a late start, the people that stayed, less than 100, worked quite well, so the workshop ended before 8:00. The study is anticipated to take between 18 and 24 months with 5 public workshops of which this was the first. While not agencies in the study area are donating sponsors, all the agencies have been notified and met with. Champaign County Regional Planning is running the study using the grant $'s received by the City of Champaign and matching sponsors. The results of this and other studies are NON-BINDING on the ultimate decision makers.
The group I was in spend a lot of time discussing the poor previous planning by the City of Champaign and the County regarding the I-57 overpass accesses to the planning area at Bradley Ave, Mattis Ave and Windsor Road. These are real barriers within the City of Champaign as they do not provide safe access for cyclists or walkers. The other top focus points were the preservation of the Kaskascia River basin which uns N-S on the western side of the study area, retention of farmland and preservation of rural appearence of the area. We were told that all would be posted on ccrpc.org site.
It was an interesting public interface with the CC Planners. I will probably attend the next workshop.

I also think a post mortem of the campaign is in order. The last I heard Gordy at 2:00 am on Nov. 8th said he would post the precinct from Vermillion Cty. when he received them and Myers had done as well or better than they expected in Campaign Cty. Finally when the results did come in she was WAY down in Vermillion and this lost her the election. Everyone was startled including the Frerichs campaign who the NG quoted as being stunned they did so well in Vermillion. Am I the only one who wonders if there was a connection between the length of time it took Vermillion to come up with numbers and the surprising results? What or who went wrong??

LV,
One thing I don't understand, why don't the city and/or county expand roads well before the development hits? For example, 150 between Champaign and Mahomet should be 4 lanes - now. It is so much harder to expand roads for traffic once it all fills in (see Spfld Avenue).
If you build it, won't they come?

Anyone have any comments on Linda Abernathy's statement that general assistance will have to be "demolished" because of the tax referendum failure?
Didn't this only become a problem since Abernathy has been the Township Supervisor? Why was this never a problem under the leadership of the former supervisor?
Gee, I don't think that there have been any disasterous losses of jobs in the past few years, and the economy is performing that badly? Who caused this problem? Abernathy?

RSW--Roads are not expanded prior to demand due to costs. This is especially true for 150 and Springfield as they are essentially Federal and State highways respectively. Also the overpasses at Bradley, Mattis and Windsor were paid for by the Federal Government just like the new one under construction at Curtis.
With costs the driving factor for road work, this was the complaint last night. The City of Champaign has annexed areas west of I-57 so they are collecting tax revenues but have failed even to plan improvements to the three overpasses at Bradley, Mattis & Windsor. Instead the money is going to improve Curtis and Duncan.

I did some driving in Missouri over the weekend, and often drove on big roads out west of St. Louis, thru mostly undeveloped areas. They have managed to figure out a way to pay for these roads, knowing that the development is coming.
We are getting a Curtis Road interchange - shouldn't we make Curtis road 5 lanes of concrete now, before it gets crowded with buildings? Wouldn't this make a great link to 130 and the new Urbana shopping district? Windsor Road is already crowded with houses and parks and will never be the "ring" road is could be.
