Trivia questions¦
(A) Who said this?
"I know I've made mistakes and disappointed some people, but I want you to know that I've always tried to do what's best for Illinois."
(B) And who said this?
"Over the years, I've ruffled feathers, had some rocky moments, added a second child and learned how to get things done. I'm a little older, and hopefully, wiser. But one thing hasn't changed: I'm as committed as ever to work for you."
These surprisingly similar campaign ads come from two prominent Illinois elected officials. At the time, the elected official in question A had negatives that neared 50%.
Do you think elected official B would actually take a page from A's playbook?

Thanks for reminding me about Carol Mosely Braun--I had finally almost forgotten about her. Blago's "work for you" comment is eerily similar to Frerich's "working for you" mantra. The even greater similarity is that they are both completely false.
I am amazed Blago hasn't taken more flack for sweeping all that money out of the special funds. This is such a blatant abuse of the public trust, and should irritate liberals as much as conservatives.
RSW - Not really. Liberals believe its the government's money regardless of the purpose or means through which it was acquired from taxpayers.
Yeah, but if the liberal thought he was supporting "Peace" by buying a dove lic plate, won't he be mad if Blago is paying his secretary with that money?
Back to the campaign message, Blago appears to be careful not to say he has made any mistakes. He has "ruffled feathers", and might be "wiser" now, but doubt he would say he would go back and change any decision. He cares about you, and will do whatever it takes to help you. For people that like what he has done, I think it comes off pretty well.
It's gonna be a tough campaign for Blago, but we'll how things come out; it all depends on his opponent. Blago doesn't have that much to run on (in the public eye), so he is going to have to campaign against the GOP candidate.
Nice ref. to CMB. I hadn't heard that in a long time.
I saw two significant reasons that Blago won four years ago. There was not a viable Republican opponent and Blago's promised Illinois voters he would get rid of the "pay to play" Chicago method of politics, focuses on their needs instead of his friends and supporters.
It is well documented that Blago is just as big a player in the "pay to play" as was his Republican predecessors. So that big BROKEN campaign promise should hurt him everywhere but maybe in Chicago.
Now the Republicans need to put up a good "clean" opponent for a change. One that is not connected to Chicago's "pay to play" politics. That canidate is BRADY. Additionally, he is positive and focused on changing IL's fiscal operations from negative to the positive. Who knows, Chicago voters might even take that into consideration and cross over.
Blago will win re-election and only those who don't think so are a bunch of dreaming GOP hacks. You don't have a viable candidate and he's got a ton of money. John Q. Public doesn't follow all the muck on these stupid blogs and Judy "They're a bunch of Morons" Topinka with the trucker voice of hers isn't going to do it. i'm sorry to burst your bubble, but please get your heads on straight and admit the handwriting on the wall.
It will be a testament to the Chicago machine and a lack of citizenry optimism if Blago wins again (and I am not predicting he won't)
