Since May of 2004, the Champaign County Young Republicans have been hosting a monthly “Legislative Breakfast Series” to address political, local and social issues relevant to Republican voters and young professionals in the Champaign County area. Prior speakers have included Professor Fred Giertz of the UIUC Department of Economics and the Institute of Government and Public Affairs, Pat Rea, Bush Appointee to the Small Business Administration, Tracy Parsons, President & CEO of the Urban League of Champaign County; Jan Paul Miller, U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois, and many others.
We will host Tom Kacich, political editor at the News-Gazette, this Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. at Republican Headquarters (106 W. Springfield Avenue, Champaign). The event is open to the public for $5.00.
My questions – 1) What questions do you have for Mr. Kacich? 2) What other speakers would be interesting to hear from? 3) What else can local political organizations do to engage their local constituencies?

Ask Mr. Kacich for examples of best ways to earn free media.
How about professional organizers and/or campaign managers about the strategy/tactics of campaigns?
Ideally, these would occur whenever elections are near to provide refresher/training for all.
Ask Kacich whether John Foreman's tobacco addiction had any role in the Monday News Gazette opinion piece supporting the cause of children smoking.
They were with Mayor Jerry when he supported smoking in the workplace but against Mayor Jerry when he opposed children possessing tobacco.
I guess old chain-smoking newspaper editors hate to hear that their addictions ought not be passed along to the next generation.
I think lobbyists might be a great source of info on certain current events relating to politics. Issues like medical malpractice, electricity deregulation, gov't insurance and pension plans etc.
I also love to hear from those on the "inside" - those that can provide some of the backroom and behind-the-scenes insights.
As to Kacich, love to hear about his perspective on the job Naomi is doing and the state Senate race. Also would like some insights into the proces of creating NG editorial positions.
anon,
Good input. We've had Ed Murnane, who is the President of the Illinois Civil Justice League - a counter to the Trial Lawyers Assn. Ed provided some great insight to the lobbying process, as well as his organization's role in the Illinois Supreme Court race in southern Illinois.

--Isn't that IP's role?? :)
How about a question on the MTD for KACICH...why no article on the $1200 LUNCH trip to TAMPA?
Nurse Ennen,
If you're not really Kathy Ennen (and I don't know whether you are or are not), would you please pick a different handle, or at least make it clear that you're not representing the views of Kathy Ennen on here?
